When asked about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), 38% of respondents fear budget cuts and procurement slowdowns, while 35% weren’t ready to call it either way. Only 6% see business as usual.
Bottom line? You’re cautiously sniffing the air—but not wagging your tails just yet. My conversations around the country in the past weeks suggest many like the idea of DOGE but are not comfortable with how it’s being done. It would be helpful to see the data being reported in numerous declared savings, flawed practices, and anecdotes of fraud. So far it’s mostly flashy headlines.
🪖 Pentagon Leadership: Shaken, Not Stirred
New names, new games. With big shifts in advisory roles, including Lt Gen Daniel “Razin” Caine’s nomination as CJCS, 38% of you “hate it,” while 34% “love it.” The rest are either Goldilocks (8%) or waving red flags (20%).
The only certainty? Change remains the world’s most awkward group project. So far, the Senate majority is going along; however, some cracks can be seen in comments from the Chairmen of both Senate and House Armed Services Committees.
🤖 GenAI: Friend, Foe, or Paperwork Savior?
Nearly half of you (47%) are flexing in support of generative AI in acquisitions. The rest are evenly split between neutrality and opposition. So yes, we’re excited—but also watching our six.
My informal engagements with clients and in trade environments suggests nearly all companies are experimenting with AI tools. Executives in defense and of a certain age just need to be shown how these tools can be safely integrated.

Turns out, we’re all human. The top reason for putting off tasks? Respondents claim distractions (41%), followed by lack of motivation (29%). Perfectionism and “pressure performance” trailed behind.
At least you’re honest…eventually. The lack of motivation response should be unsettling; it could be an early warning sign for your company. How do you keep it from settling in? Procrastination contains an element of fear; root it out of your organization.
💸 Budget Realignment: Smart Shift or Strategic Shredder?
In a “bold” 8% realignment move, 39% of respondents support the Pentagon’s FY 2026 refocus. But 31% fear short-term thinking, while 26% gave a cautious thumbs-up. Only 4% were skeptical enough to say it outright.
Elon Musk’s DOGE may be driving, but the road is foggy. Several are chiming in on LinkedIn about new opportunities in software sales and small business opportunities but they aren’t really new opportunities. I’m not sure that what we’re seeing is much different than the grinding of the gears experienced during the 10-year attempt at sequestration, 2011-2020.
